Kuswag 5 rugby hooker selected to tour Ireland

Two golf days will be held to raise funds for Aedan.

Kuswag Skool rugby player, Aedan Raath has been selected to tour Ireland from 3 to 13 December with an U13 Westville touring team.

His family is arranging events so that funds can be raised for the tour and they ask the community to support them if possible with any donations or sponsorships for the events.

“I’m very excited to tour Ireland. This will be the first time I go overseas,” said the grade 5 pupil.

Aedan started playing rugby at the age of five for the Amanzimtoti Rugby Club. He was born in Scottburgh, but moved inland before returning to the coast in 2015.

When he started school, he played for his school in Secunda and as part of the U9 team, they were selected as the best team in Mpumalanga. “I enjoy playing rugby because it is a team sport and it’s not easy,” said the hooker.

When he moved to Amanzimtoti he started playing for Kuswag and the rugby club. He was selected for the school’s first team and the Natal AVS Bokkie Week, where he received Natal AVS colours. While in Naboomspruit playing for the AVS team, he was scouted and selected for the U13 team to tour to Ireland.

All of this Aedan has achieved at the tender age of 11. “I think I will do very well in Ireland, as I do well in all my sports,” he added.

Aedan also plays cricket, hockey and does athletics.
