Local musicians to make waves at Koby’s fundraiser

The young surfer has been selected to represent his country in September this year and salty locals are doing all they can to get him into the Japanese waters.

LOCAL musicians have united to assist Warner Beach surfer, Koby Oberholzer to raise funds for his travel expenses to Japan for the ISA World Junior Surfing Championships.

Amanzimtoti’s Koby Oberholzer (17) needs to raise a hefty R45,000 in order for him to represent his country in Japan from 23 September to 1 October.

Popular home-grown band, Alimho and Storm invite the public to support their fundraiser gig at the Toti Brewing Company on Friday, 25 August. Their performance will be supported by Warner Beach musician, Jaco Loops. An entrance of R50 will be charged at the door, and a portion of this will go towards Koby’s fundraising.

“The ocean and surfing plays a major role in every one of our lives,” admitted Alimho and Storm drummer, Grant van der Linde. “We’ve all watched this kid grow up and become the talented surfer he is today. We want to do all we can to get him to Japan.”

Aside from the amazing music, raffle prizes will be up for grabs on the evening. A Rip Curl tide watch, Rip Curl leather wallet, dream catcher and a fish tank (with all the bells and whistles) will be on offer, a R20 ticket will enter you into the raffle. Make your way to Lower Illovo’s Toti Brewing Company on Friday, 25 August around 7pm, for an evening of good music all in the name of a great cause.
