5-pin fun for visitors at Scottburgh GC

The Halfway Toyota Combined Stableford is being played today (Saturday).

It was Masters week in Augusta and the players at Scotties were just as enthused as they teed it up for the betterball last Wednesday.
Deena Govender picked up Spoekie and they ghosted to a 42 point win. Second were visitor Andrew Imray and in-form Wayne Simpson who were just one behind with 41 and third were the usual Brian Richards and Tony Power with 40. Tony also found the hidden holes and two clubs were run in by Org Viviers, Fouche Swart and Deanne Jooste picked up his usual bonus.
Last Friday’s 5 pin turned out a splurge of visitors, after all it’s only R30 and R50 for a cart and your second drink is free. Not many bargains like that around these days. Marius Koekemoer scored 12 points for a R200 win with Mike Morris taking second with 11 for R100. Nikki Morris drew a blank and was encouraged with a pocket of ‘nearly new’s’.
And as the Masters was called off for the high winds which we usually experience at Scotties, we teed it up for the monthly P&G Construction betterball in somewhat muggy weather.

Old time pairing of John Mills and Barry Kisten got together and raced to a 46 point total which was good enough for first place. Losing out to the count out was Wayne Simpson (who mislaid his Masters invite, lol) and Tony Power with their 46 and in third was the two Petes, Gilliver and Morris on 44, Pete Gilliver shooting a career best 69. The two Petes each picked up a nearest the pin each along with Wayne Simpson and Rhyno Norje. Our resident visitors, Les Huddle and Leighn Moolman didn’t go away empty handed as they picked up the Stone, but they’ll be back.
An Individual Stableford takes place this Wednesday (12th) and Saturday (15th) is the Halfway Toyota Combined Stableford.
Flyer’s Footnote: At golf you have to be mentally alert. You can’t lean against a tree that isn’t there.
