Training run preps athletes for 2023 race calendar

The exciting 40km run from Port Edward to Uvongo was successful in spite of the absence of the founder, Isak Ludick

New Year’s Day saw athletes from local clubs gather at the Pont Holiday and Water Park Resort in Port Edward at 05:00, to participate in the traditional, annual training run hosted by South Coast Striders.

The Isak Ludick run is a well-organised training run which is held every year on January 1, in preparation for the year’s running calendar.

All smiles after the 40km training run are MK Mufumadi, Phatheka Manyala and Dr Adeline Jacobs.

The exciting 40km run from Port Edward to Uvongo was successful in spite of the absence of the founder, Isak Ludick who is in New Zealand on a business trip.

About 25 runners from clubs as far as Amanzimtoti enjoyed the undulating route along the R61 to Marine Drive on their way back home.

“I think we would definitely be better prepared for this year’s KwaZulu-Natal race calendar now that we have washed away the Christmas pudding,” joked Dr Adeline Jacobs. She completed the race in under five hours.

Enjoying the training run are Moira Jones and Anita Naidoo.

The first male home was South Coast Striders’ athlete of the year, Patrick Khuluse who finished in 03:17 and the first female in, was Phatheka Manyala in 04:20.

Members of South Coast Striders are reminded to renew their club memberships and annual licences.
The club also reminds those who wish to join up, to contact the club secretary, Deborah Berridge on 072 1322006.
