Halfway Toyota is hands-on with skills

The competition brings about team work and building customer experience within the dealership.

Toyota South Africa has recently awarded its best-performing employees in competitions testing the skills of employees across a number of areas and categories.

The Japanese car-maker conducted the National Skills Development Program, which saw 268 dealers do battle in their respective fields, including technical, sales and customer service.

Halfway Toyota Shelly Beach took first place in the East Coast Regional category and was placed second nationally.
The team, named East Coast Samurais, enjoyed success under the mentorship of Sanjay Dayanand (Halfway Toyota Shelly Beach financial manager).

Halfway Toyota Shelly Beach won the national competition last year, so this was an impressive follow-up as it’s famously difficult to win two years in a year.

“It showed that staff are committed and that a constant level of talent and skill, plus customer service, is provided,” said Sanjay.
The Skills Competition 2022 aims to develop new and innovative training for the next generation of employees, while rewarding winners for excellence.

To compete in the annual event, participants must first find problem areas with regards to customer service – and then show how they can solve those problems.

Awards were presented in six categories – diagnosis technician, technician, service advisor, guest experience manager, parts sales and sales walkaround.

Rajin Reddy, service manager, said the Skills Competition brings about teamwork and building customer experience within the dealership.

He congratulated the winners but made mention of all who took part. “It reminds me just how brilliant the people who represent our brand are, out in the field, and highlights the level of talent existing across the Toyota dealership network.”
