On a more personal note, I recently had the opportunity to drive the Proton X50 1.5 TGDi premium model.
This crossover SUV is certainly packed with features, power is plentiful and there’s great value for money.
One of the eye-catching features was that it comes equipped with quad exhaust pipes.
Under the hood, the 1.5-l, three-cylinder turbo-charged direct injection engine produces up to 132kW of power and 255Nm of torque.
There’s plenty pep in terms of responsiveness and acceleration via the smooth, yet quick-shifting, seven speed dual automatic transmission.
Inside the cabin, the X50 is well kitted out with aluminum accents, well laid out controls, soft-touch rubberised materials, a well kitted panoramic retractable sunroof, reverse camera, 360 degree camera system and ‘Hi Proton’ voice command.
While all these features make it competitive, there’s also some serious comfort available, hence it’s fair to say the X50 premium is stepping up into what HMS describes as ‘affordable luxury’.
