It’s back to club golf at Scottburgh

Umthunzi Hotel and Conference Centre will be sponsoring Saturday's (2nd) individual Stableford.

After all the excitement of the Sardine Run tournament, it was back to the bread and butter of club golf this week.

We had a friendly betterball Stableford for openers with Geoff Thommasen and Gerrit Meyer claiming the spoils with 41 points on a count out from Brian Richards and Denis Brown, last Wednesday.

There must have been a right old ding dong battle for first place as the winner’s opposition Mike Eley and Mick Marriot were third on 40 points.

Deanne Jooste had his weekly two club and the hidden holes are resting. Dave and Janet Beckerly came out from Pontypridd in Wales for the Sardine Run and will be taking back a picture of them ignominiously holding the Stone of Scottburgh aloft for their club wall.

We played our monthly medal sponsored by your Local Choice Pharmacy last Saturday. Played in sublime conditions Bay Kisten made the best of it by returning the best gross in A division with 71, Gerrit Meyer had a 70 nett for second place. Doc Mahabeer had an 88 for B division gross with Wayne Simpson having a 74 for best nett. In the C division, Pete Morris won with 39 and Denis Brown was runner-up with 37. This month’s medal goes to Barry Kisten with a 64.

The Alliance was won by Bob Hall, Mick Marriot, Gerrit Meyer and Geoff Thommasen who incidentally found the hidden holes. At the opposite end of the Alliance, Ian Walker, Mike Bremner, Clyde Leisagang and Russel Freeman chose the Stone as their prize.

It’s a betterball Stableford this Wednesday (29th) and the Umthunzi Hotel and Conference Centre will be sponsoring Saturday’s (2nd) individual Stableford. With one and two night stays it’s worth filling up the field.

Flyer’s footnote: Sometimes a particular hole will cause you to choke – a choke hole like the 17th at Scotties. It’s like walking into a very dark room as a kid, you get the same feeling of fear that hits you.
