Second ace for Umkomaas Golf Club sharp-shooter Francois Rossouw

There were many reasons to celebrate at Umkomaas Golf Club.

The long weekend was a veritable festival of golf with the annual Aliwal Stroll competition and a fun foursomes game held in the run-up to the Interclub tournaments scheduled to be held at #thefriendliestclub in October.

Umkomaas GC golf coordinator, Francois Rossouw, made his second hole-in-one on Sunday during the foursomes competition. The ace came at the uphill 4th hole, the second on this hole in the past few months. Hitting an easy 8-iron, Francois believed it would be close after watching it hit the right part of the green and roll up, but to his partner’s delight when he reached the green ready to slot the putt the ball was already in the hole.

Solid performances over both days saw Patrick Ndlovu, Lindani Mthiyane, Maxwell Mthembu and Hugo Allison take first place in this year’s Aliwal Stroll competition. The youngsters are all talented golfers who managed to combine well, including navigating some windy conditions, to score respectable Combined Betterball (82 points) and Fourball Alliance (85 points) scores in the competition held on Friday and Saturday last week.

Second place went to regulars in the prizes, Bruce Sutcliffe, Francois Rossouw and Max and Christo van den Heever. Third place was the husband-wife teams of Peter and Hayley Gilliver and Peter and Alex Morris. Grateful thanks must also go to Blueprint Labelling for their generous sponsorship which allowed prizes for each day and overall, down to sixth place.

Sue Boucher and Lesley Fraser combined perfectly in Sunday’s Foursomes competition, shooting an impressive 40 points, and off the men’s card. The ladies dovetailed well, with impressive drives off the tee and deft touches around the greens. Their score was well ahead of second place which was claimed by Linda Toward and Karen Lithgow who made 36 points.

Lesley Fraser and Sue Boucher found form to win the foursomes competition at Umkomaas Golf Club.

The members are incredibly proud of Sabiha Hulley and excited to follow her journey at the Ladies Interprovincial Tournament scheduled to take place at Rondebosch Golf Club. In honour of her achievement the ladies sector procured and presented Sabiha with her KZN blazer at the prizegiving on Saturday.

Sabiha Hulley proudly shows off her KZN blazer ahead of what promises to be an exciting IPT for her at Rondebosch Golf Club.

The members were saddened to hear of the death of long-time member Dudley Pringle. Condolences are extended to his family and friends.
