Follow these easy to follow beauty tips to blitz the winter blues and pamper yourself in the process.
Hair static
Excessive combing and cold temperatures can cause a build-up of negative ions on the hair shafts which causes individual stands to repel one another.
Avoid using a plastic comb and run some light moisturiser or hair serum over your ends. Alternatively you can spritz hair spray onto your comb and then comb your hair.
Dry or flaky face
Stop using treatment products or anti-ageing products or products which contain fragrance or essential oils. Switch to a thick, bland moisturiser.
Remember that the winter sun can also damage and dry out your skin so wear sunblock even in winter.
Chapped lips
Your go-to is lip balm. Remember there is no such thing as too much and it is your first line of defence. Opt for lip balms that contain moisturising ingredients such as lanolin or petrolatum.
Again look for balms that have a built-in sun protection factor. Don’t lick your lips as this will only dry them out more.
Rough elbows
The trick to treating rough elbows is to moisturise them thoroughly twice a day. When you get out of the shower slather a hydrating cream on them.
To soften extra rough elbows apply a layer of petroleum jelly before bed to seal in the moisture.
Oatmeal milk bath
Climb into an oatmeal milk bath and let the soothing ingredients of oatmeal and milk reduce skin redness and irritation.
To create an oatmeal milk bath you will need:
1 cup whole fat dried milk
1/4 cup baking soda
1/2 cup oats
If you want to add 5-7 drops of high-quality essential oil(s) of your choice for an aromatherapy boost.
Directions
Take your oats and grind them into a fine powder in your food processor.
Stir the milk, baking soda and ground oats together.
Place the milk bath into a clean and well-sealing container.
To use, add about 1/8 cup of the oatmeal milk bath to warm water and stir to dissolve.
Add the essential oils if you didn’t mix them into the mixture.
Now sit back and relax….you deserve it.
