Valentine’s Day – how to survive as a ‘singleton’

Should you find yourself in the single life lane and need some help with ideas for keeping occupied this Valentine's Day, then here are some tips for you.

It’s Valentine’s Day, and love is in the air!

Yes, it can be an exciting yet stressful day for many as so much time and effort goes into making it perfect day for that significant other, but for a lot of people, it’s that one day a year that they simply dread.

This feeling seems to be prevalent amongst the ‘forever alone squad’ or in simpler terms, single folk.

Being single on Valentine’s Day can bring about a feeling of incompleteness. People are often pressured by society to go out and find someone to spend this day with and if you don’t, it’s often picked on. Whatever your reason may be for being single, why not do something special for yourself?

Should you find yourself in the single life lane and need some help with ideas for keeping occupied this Valentine’s Day, then here’s some tips for you:

Gifts – Buy yourself something nice. Don’t wait for someone else to buy you something. Be it a bouquet of flowers, some jewellery or a new pair of shoes, do something to make yourself feel special.

Chocolates – Go on and grab a slab or a box of chocolates. Chocolate is known to release endorphins in your brain which makes you feel better and can lift your mood instantly.

Time with loved ones – It does not have to be a significant other, because your loved ones also refer to your friends and family. Go out for a meal, spend the day at the beach or even make it a movie night out.

Pamper day – Valentine’s Day is all about love after all, so show some self-love and treat yourself to a pamper day. Think spa day or shopping spree.

Spread the love – Brighten up someone else’s day with an act of kindness. If you know someone else is going to be alone, why not do something
for them? Hand our roses to random people, spend the day doing voluntary work at places such as old age homes, orphanages or hospitals. The aim here is to fill yourself up with love by helping others.

Sleep – If you’re really not one to go out and are happier as a homebody, this is a good opportunity to get some much-needed rest and laze around.

Find love – There are many single people out there, so keep your eyes peeled for any upcoming events that will welcome singles on the day and you could just meet a significant other. If not go to a local restaurant and hang out with friends and mingle.

Be happy – Do not feel depressed and sulk the entire day. Feeling bad for yourself is not going to do you any good. Rather maintain a positive mindset.

Just because you do not have a significant other, doesn’t mean you can’t be as happy as a person that does. Focus on creating your own happiness. As for couples, Valentine’s Day may be only once a year, but the same love shown on the day should remain constant year round.
