Why the Hibiscus Coast should be on your property radar

Those heading into the property market can feel a little overwhelmed when going through the property for sale across KZN. If you want value for money, one of the best winter climates in South Africa and positive improvements across the board, the Hibiscus Coast is worth checking out.

Don’t overlook the Hibiscus Coast when considering property for sale in KwaZulu-Natal as it offers value for money along with arguably the best winter climate in South Africa.

This section of the South Coast boasts areas such as Margate and Uvongo, which are traditionally very popular areas for tourists and visitors, but in recent years there has been an increase in sales to people who are looking to relocate there permanently.

At times, there was a dip in those looking to the Hibiscus Coast as a place for second homes, but this neck of the woods continues to show promising signs for those looking to invest.

Some locals had a perception that crime in the area was on the increase, but criminal activity on the entire coastal belt actually showed up as relatively low when compared to metropolitan areas according to the 2014 statistics.

The evolution of this 125km of coastline over the last 10 years has brought about some welcome additions, while smaller towns have still been able to retain the charm that makes this region so special.

Shelly Beach is often seen as the commercial hotspot in the area, but Margate has also expanded and now boasts its own large shopping centre as well as a private hospital. Travel is also simple in this area, thanks to the airport which offers commercial flights to Johannesburg.

When it comes to attractions though, the “Greatest Shoal on Earth” is hard to beat. This is what the world-famous sardine run has become known as, and sees a hive of activity in the months of June and July. The incredible wildlife viewing opportunity draws tons of spectators, while fishermen from across South Africa flock to the area to capitalise on the chaos.

Certain towns on the coast offer excellent whale watching opportunities while boat trips are also available if you hope to get into the thick of the action.

So if you are considering property options in KZN, explore the Hibiscus coast during your search and you may just secure a gem at a bargain price.
