Tragedy strikes during season

Water is life, it has been said, and it needs to flow to ensure the long-term survival of us all.

An immensely popular Albersville man is fighting for his life in hospital in Durban after being attacked by dogs.

Two other women were hospitalised as a result of the attack.

No doubt there’ll be debate over the inherent nature of two of the dogs involved, pitbulls, and whether or not they should be kept as pets and/or guard dogs.

Some feel they get bad press, while others are terrified of these animals.

Whatever your view, any dog attack is a reminder that dogs need to be treated with due respect.

For this reason, dog owners also need to ensure that their dogs are not a menace to others.

The terrible accident at Palm Beach last Friday sparked an outpouring of sympathy – and outrage – on social media, with all kinds of accusation and speculation.

It was a tragedy of epic proportions, which saw a popular traffic officer and a visiting family killed.

The surviving son of the visiting family, who was not on the South Coast at the time, will now have to slowly rebuild his life.

Mention of the words Ugu or water have seen the collective blood pressure of many on the South Coast spike during this festive season.

Hopefully, the infrastructure is repaired to the extent that water flows consistently through it for a very, very long time.

If the reason for the constant interruptions is sabotage, or political, one hopes common sense will prevail.

Water is life, it has been said, and it needs to flow to ensure the long-term survival of us all.

Matric results are out for IEB schools and congratulations to those who cracked the marks they were hoping to.
