Commended cop jailed

A lot changed in the space of six months.

IN January this year high praise was heaped on Warrant Officer Patrick Gosling, a policeman attached to the PoP (Public Order Policing) unit in Port Shepstone.

He was one of four officers who were tasked to trace wanted suspects, unlicenced firearms, stolen property and drugs. And he also assisted detectives with priority crimes – murder, rape and robbery.

During two separate drug busts in 2014, WO Gosling fatally shot two men whom he claimed had attacked him with knives whilst he was attempting to arrest them.

Last Friday he was sentenced to 25 years for the murders.

Major-General Bhekinkosi Langa, acting provincial commissioner, issued commendation certificates to the four policemen, praising them for their outstanding success rate.

Now the commended cop is behind bars.
