Councils table budgets

BOTH Ugu and Ray Nkonyeni municipalities tabled their budgets for the coming financial year this week.

And while both budgets were approved the opposition parties believed not enough funding has been allocated for maintenance and infrastructure.

Rejecting the budget the DA claimed that treasury guidelines were ignored as less than eight percent of the budget will be spent on maintenance.

Rates will increase by six percent and there will be a one percent increase for consumers who buy electricity from Ray Nkonyeni.

In these tough economic times the mayors and councillors have tried to balance the books and be fair to all communities.
