Festival in top gear

High praise has come from all quarters.

MARGATE in particular and the South Coast in general definitely got their tourism groove back last weekend.

It is estimated that about 60 000 people – visitors and bikers – descended on Margate’s beachfront for the inaugural South Coast Bike Fest.

After hosting Africa Bike Week for eight years it came as a blow when the organisers, Harley-Davidson moved the event to East London for this year’s HOG (Harley Owners’ Group) convention.

Vicky Wentzel from Wozani Africa joined forces with Ugu South Coast Tourism, Ray Nkonyeni Municipality and local businessmen and together they created a whole new biking/music/art festival.

And they made it happen.

High praise has come from all quarters and it was a great economic boost for the South Coast

Huge appreciation must go to the organising team for putting Margate back in top gear.
