Fake news causes concern

Always double-check reports where nameless spokesmen are quoted.

THE global phenomenon of fake news is cause for concern.

And there appears to be a proliferation of these `news’ sites.

Almost daily the South Coast Herald receives reports usually from sources who want to remain anonymous and when investigated these stories are in fact hoaxes.

Fake news is an assault on the free press. People have the right to have access to news to enable them to make decisions, fake news infringes on those rights.

We caution our readers not to be fooled by false reports often put out there by individuals who are pushing their own agendas.

Always double-check reports where nameless spokesmen are quoted.

Stick to credible news sites.
