Battle lines drawn

Those who put up the gate must take it down - they have no right to stop free access to the beach.

BATTLE lines look set to be drawn in the seaside village of Trafalgar over a gate that has been erected on a public road.

Ward 9 councillor Richard Nyembezi criticised the construction of the barrier at a council meeting this week and demanded that it be removed with immediate effect.

Some locals have dubbed the structure ‘Trump-gate’ after American president Donald Trump’s proposed wall between the USA and its Mexican neighbours.

Trafalgar, named after the famous maritime battle where Lord Horatio Nelson lost his life, constantly courts controversy – last year the town was in the news for clearing a primary dune.
