Deal with derelict properties

The area cannot afford for complaints to keep on falling on deaf ears.

FOR many years abandoned properties on the South Coast have raised the ire of residents.

Not only are these derelict buildings unsightly, they are often used for illicit activities. Some are being used as brothels, others are drug dens or vagrants move in.

Frustrated and frightened home and business owners claim the municipality has dragged its feet in dealing with the problem.

Ray Nkonyeni Municipality must shoulder the majority of the blame because ratepayers’ numerous complaints have simply fallen on deaf ears.

These inept officials would rather do nothing and allow the properties to degenerate.

They do not seem to care about the despair of the helpless neighbours.

Tough action needs to be taken against those who have abandoned their properties.
