Cycle Tour podium finish for Tayne

It started at finished at St Mike's, with the turnaround points in Hibberdene and Umtentweni respectively.

Cyclists from across the province, and some even further afield, took part in the recent South Coast Cycle Tour.

The initiative of Dr AK Pillay (MD24), the event was split into two races – 90km and 45km – with the majority opting for the longer route.

It started at finished at St Mike’s, with the turnaround points in Hibberdene and Umtentweni, respectively.

The 90km race was won by Daniyal Matthews in a time of 02:17:38.

Warren Moolman was second in 02:20:33, with South Coast hope Tayne Rudling in third.

Tayne was coming off a win in the Sappi race in Scottburgh the week before and clocked a time of 02:31:24.

There was something of a dash for the finish, with the next four riders all within nanoseconds of each other.

After Tayne came Jake Adam (02:31:30), Sphesihle Magwaza (02:31:32), Cade Ian (02:31:32), Sanele Hlongwane (02:31:42) and Connor McLoughlin (02:31:46).

Anthony Merredew (02:32:58) and Wilhelm Willie (02:33:01) rounded out the top 10.

The 45km race was won by Andrew Charles in 01:43:46, with Georgia Hewitt (01:45:43) and Alexis Hewitt (01:45:43) next, finishing together.

Boet Stewart, better known for his flyfishing skills, was fourth in 01:50:33, with Riaan Viviers making up the top five in a time of 01:52:12.
