MTB series win for Angus

The series is growing and more youngsters from the coast are encouraged to get involved.

There’s no stopping Angus Bunge (7) of Paddock when it comes to MTB racing.

The youngster, racing in the colours of Izotsha Primary, won the KZN MTB Series sub-nipper division, which wrapped up for the year recently.

He dominated all his races and was a worthy winner.

His mom, Angela, who raced for South Africa in the U23 World Cup at Cascades in Pietermaritzburg in 2013, said Angus was on top of the world. “It seems there are no signs of him stopping now or slowing down.”

While provincial colours were awarded in older age groups, competitors in the sub-nippers will have to wait.

It was decided they are a bit too young to travel upcountry to the forthcoming IPT in October. But their turn will come.

For Angus, though, he will have to wait another year as he only moves up an age group in 2026.

Not that it matters too much, as Angela said, the focus is really on getting more kids on bikes.

“We’d love to see more schools involved next year. The series has really grown, with more competitors taking it more seriously,” she explained.
