News and results from South Coast bowling clubs.

KINGFISHER BA

The two semis and the final were hard-fought, and fantastic bowls was played all round.

SOUTHBROOM
The tenth Lower South Coast 2-4-2 lawn bowls tournament was won for the second time in three years by The Bees, namely Southbroom’s Eileen Burt and the Village BC’s Brian Douthwaite. Total prize money this year exceeded R26 000. The highly popular tournament attracted 56 mixed pairs from as far afield as Stilbaai, Pretoria, Gauteng and Durban, as well as many local twosomes.
Nine games of 12 ends are played at the four single-green clubs of Southbroom, Munster, Port Edward and Banners Rest.
All the greens played very well despite being strung for seven rinks – always a challenge at this time of year as the bowls swing more in dry conditions.
The Stilbaai pair of Johan Snyman and Paula Swanepoel, former winners, were runners-up, and Shane Nienaber and Marilyn Francis of Riverside BC finished third.
Eileen has had a successful month, picking up a bronze in the KZN Ladies’ Pairs with Mandy Isikson, and a silver in the KBA’s veteran ladies’ singles.
