PSG FC is U17 champs

PSG beat Junior Mario FC from Mvutshini Location in the final - 2-1 at Marburg Sports Complex.

Port Shepstone Genesis Football Club, well-known as PSG FC, conquered everything on their journey to become the Ray Nkonyeni Local Municipality’s U17 opening tournament champions.
It was not an easy victory as they pipped Junior Mario FC from Mvutshini Location in the final – 2-1 at Marburg Sports Complex last Friday.

As a result, PSG lifted the champion’s trophy and gold medals, while Junior Mario walked home as the runner-up.

Both teams came through the robust round-robin system, where they had to face tough character tests against unknown teams. The group stages were played at Ugu Sports and Leisure Centre in Gamalakhe recently.

According to event coordinator Musa Mendu, this opening tournament was used to establish the U17 league at a local municipality level, and if things go according to plan, from next year, they will have an U17 regional league.

“The main purpose was to see teams from all zones and gauge how far they are in terms of development. We had champions of each 12 zones. Our aim is to start an U17 league by September. Once this league is over, we will see if we will be able to play in the regional league, which is the bigger picture,” said Mendu.

He also announced that they will hold a team managers’ meeting before the league kicks off and urged all to be part of it.
