Golf galore at Sheppie

The course is in excellent condition.

It’s been a busy time at Port Shepstone Country Club, with various competitions and tournaments on the go.

By the time the paper hits the streets, the KZN Amateur will be into day two of qualifying.

This sees two rounds of strokeplay followed by a cut off, and then it goes into matchplay.

Cameron Olivant will be in the mix, so it will be interesting to see how he fares on a course he loves and knows well.

In competitions already played, the business day last Friday, sponsored by Van Zyl, Retief Inc., was won on 95 points by Kreeson Naicker, Sashen Govender, Sanjay Singh and Ganes Munsami.

Runners-up on 91 points were Smittie Stieger, Cameron Olivant, Howard Crouch and Ken Morris.

In third place on 87 points were Alberto dos Santos, Rob Vogt, Basil King and Chris Boyce.

The competition last Wednesday was won by Gavin van Wyk on 42 points, with Gary Vogt next on 40 points. In third place was Ian Stewart on 38 points.

Golfers came together last Saturday to raise funds for Genevieve Davidson, who is fighting cancer.
