Easy wins for Giants and Spartans

The invitational league is well under way.

The second round of the Southern KZN Winter League Invitational was played in superb weather last Sunday.

Super Giants beat Misfits quite comfortably by 67 runs. They batted first and made 176-3 in 20 overs.

Mikyle Bartels made 74 not out off 56 balls. There was useful support from Rashied Gopaul, who made 28 not out off 13 and Jayden Scholtz 26 off 15.

Best of the bowlers was Jared Myburgh with 1-21.

In reply, Theo Goldstone made 24 not out off 12. Ruben van Reenen, still only in Grade 7, made 22 off 28.

Jayden Scholtz’s spinners were too much for the Misfits, and he took 3-10, with support from Inayat Patel, who took 2-14.

The Misfits could only make 109-7.

In the earlier game, Spartans beat Solid XI by 45 runs. Spartans batted first and made 144-3 in 20 overs.

Shahid Sarwar top-scored with 46 off 25, ably assisted by Sachin Kalkapersad with 42 off 45.

YY Moola was retired on 29, not out off 39.

In response, Solid made 99 all out, with Gershion Lawrence’s canny off-spinners proving their undoing. He took 4-10 in his four overs.

Rezwaan Bhula top-scored with 35 off 22, with MI Talha weighing in with 20 down the order.
