Age but a number for Angus and Matthew

A total of 40 players battled it out on a well prepared course where the greens were running at 7.5 on the stimp meter.

There aren’t many sports where a 90-year-old and a 12-year-old can be part of the same team.

But that’s what happened at Margate Country Club during the monthly business day recently.

The competition was won by regulars Heber de Beer, Nico du Plooy, Piet Fourie and George Nagel.

However, the talking point was seeing Angus McLachlan (90) and junior Matthew Evans (12) team up with Des Potts and Lourens Steenkamp to finish as runners-up on 90 points.

Angus and Matthew were comfortably the oldest and youngest in the field, a mere 78 years separating them.

It just goes to show that the age gap proved no interference for this dynamic duo, as both young and old proved their mettle.
