Good fishing continues with Sardine Run

Sardines were netted at Shelly Beach Ski boat bay and Uvongo beach last weekend.

The Sardine Run is still in full swing, and the fishing is good too.

Fishing was productive in Umtentweni, Mbango and Uvongo last weekend.

No guessing what’s on the bite? Yes, it’s shad. Shad is one of South Africa’s most popular angling fish and is pursued by hundreds of thousands of anglers every year.

Also, many locals and visitors caught garrick, Natal snoek and kingfish from ‘The Block’ in Port Shepstone to Uvongo Pier.

Local angler Kieron Naidoo had a good day after he landed two garrick at Sea Park recently. The fish weighed in at 10.31kg and 10.62kg.

Sardines were also netted further north at Umkomaas, Warner Beach and Winklespruit.

The Area Operations Manager at KZN Sharks Board, Wayne Harrison, said on Tuesday this week that masses of sardines moved through Port Edward. “They are on a deeper line, and there have been super pods of common dolphin of up to 3 000 per pod.”
