Retiree rekindles passion for running
The 69-year-old is ready to begin prep for the next Comrades.
Juergen Baumann (69) is a proud local who recently completed his third Comrades Marathon, clocking an impressive time of 11:14:34.
He is a Renishaw Hills resident, originally from Germany.
Juergen and his wife, Barbara, moved to the area in 2022, and he has since rekindled his passion for running.
“I have been running ultra marathons for many years, but never before has my hobby caused so much attention in the community,” he said.
“Comrades 2024 was a test to see whether I can cope with such an effort at almost 70 years of age. What I can say is, this run was not a competition for me, but a happening.”
“The joy of life along the route made the run relatively easy for me, and I now know what my performance level is and can prepare for the next Comrades.”
