Sheppie Challengers struggle with the bat

Best of the bowlers was Francois Smit, with 3-5 in two overs.

It wasn’t the best day with the bat for the Sheppie Challengers (Robbie Coutts Cricket Academy) against a Scottburgh High side last Saturday.

The team was reduced to 21-7, chasing a modest total of 86 all out in the CMCA Powerwise T20 league at Scottburgh High.

Best of the bowlers was Francois Smit, with 3-5 in two overs.

Other wickets were taken by Sphephelo Mlambo (1-2), Oliver Smith (1-4), Ruben van Reenen (1-1), Ruben Kunz (1-7), Benjamin Kunz (1-10), Damion Bezuidenhout (1-7) and Taiyn Naicker (1-11).

This time around, there were only 16 extras, much improved.

Deshan Pillay top-scored with 26, with valuable support from Blake Vincent (21).

In response, the Challengers had no answer to the bowling. With leading run scorer Ruben out for a duck, the rest battled.

Seth du Plessis is showing great promise as a bowler.

At one stage, it was 20-7 before Benjamin and Damion added something bordering on respectability with seven runs each.

Francois made five, but all three managed to be dismissed via run outs.
Deshan nabbed 5-7 on a day he will remember fondly, no doubt.

Other wickets were taken by Rorke Harris, Kian Naidoo and Milaan Theevan.
In the other game played, Jaguars were too strong for the Red Devils, beating them by 46 runs.
Jaguars batted first and made 179.

Red Devils could only manage 133 in reply.

Shivaar Sivpersad top-scored with 52 not out (retired).

Cade Canham made 31, Neil Bezuidenhout 29 and Anton Bezuidenhout 24.

Seth du Plessis bagged 4-31 in his four over. Shivesh Moodley 2-21 and Kirav Singh 1-12.

For the Red Devils, runs were scored by Justin Brown (26), Fabian Francis (22) and Shivesh Moodley (25*).
Wickets were taken by Anton and Yajna Singh, two each, with one each by Veronique du Plooy, Shivaar and Janel Gerber.

Francois Smit, agile in the field.
