Help Rikus play rugby in Italy

The teen now needs all the help he can get to raise the funds to play overseas.

Rikus Karel Henning is a rugby fanatic. He eats and sleeps for the game.

In 2023, Rikus made the Southern KZN team, and this year he was selected to go on a tour to Italy.

The teen now needs all the help he can get to raise the funds to play overseas.

The Grade 11 learner will only be turning 17 in October this year and is playing for the first team for Suid-Natal High.

His mother, Mari Craucamp, said rugby is everything to Rikus.

“He is so passionate and dedicated that he will walk from Hibberdene to Port Shepstone just to attend a match or wake up at 02:00 to walk from Stick Farm to Hibberdene garage to catch the bus for a match,” she explained.

His favourite position is number eight, but he also plays six and seven.

Mari recalls that ever since her son was a toddler, he was a very active child, and everything with a ball was his happy place.

She further explained that the tour to Italy will open big doors for him to become a professional rugby player.

“It’s a big opportunity and a privilege to have been chosen,” she added.

The tour cost is R70 000, excluding visa costs, spending money and all the other extras.

“We are trying to raise funds to help his dream become reality,” said Mari.

Rikus said this opportunity will be super awesome.

“My life is rugby. There is no plan B, I’m going to play rugby come hell or high water. I told my mother you will see me on TV one day playing for the Springboks. To go to Italy will open a big door for my rugby career and would be the beginning of my dream becoming a reality,” he said.
