Golfers embrace cool weather

On Saturday, KWV will be sponsoring the monthly medal.

It was a hot and windy Valentine’s Day with no sign of the ladies.
It was left to Graham Brown to see the day out with 36 points. His protagonist and partner in crime Geoff Thommasen was creeping up behind him with 35, a change from either of them picking up the Stone. However, the Stone was lifted by Willem du Plessis and John Mills picked up the only 2 club for a R100 payday.

Thankfully, last Saturday the weather turned around and we were blessed with some cool weather for the Halfway Toyota combined Stableford. However, the clubs of Nivash Mahabeer and Kevin Ramkisson were hot as they totalled 79 points between them for first place.

Captain Bob Hall and John Mills were hard on their heels, but had to settle for second place with 76 points. Coming in third just a further point back was the combination of Clyde Leisagang and Hilton McAuliffe with 75 usually the winning score. Nivash picked up the only 2 club and Wayne Simpson claimed the hidden holes. Laighn Moolman who has been picking up of late managed to carry on, but this time picking up the Stone with the assistance of Morne van Eck.

Congratulations to Hayley Gilliver, the matriarch of the Gilliver family for being selected for the South Coast region to play in the Inter Region tournament in Newcastle on March 1 and 2. With two Gillivers in provisional or semi-provincial teams, it’s now time for Pete to join the senior team.

On Saturday, KWV will be sponsoring our monthly medal, with Nivash Mahabeer and TM Moodley sponsoring the Alliance.

Flyer’s footnote: For most golfers, the only difference between a R10 ball and a R60 ball is R50.
