Racing accolades for power couple

The husband-and-wife team made some racing history.

Terry Yannikakis and his wife, Pregs of Umtentweni have made history by scooping the Motorsport South Africa (MSA) Drag National Challenge title.
“Who would have thought a husband-and-wife team from the South Coast would make history by winning the MSA National Championship. We are truly blessed,” said Terry.

Terry piloted his rotary-powered Mazda F1000 bakkie, nicknamed Pixi, down drag strips across the country last year to secure the most points in the car category and with it the title.
After four hard-fought rounds in four provinces, the winners of the car and bike categories were announced.
It proved to be a watershed moment for drag racing as it marked the first time in the history of South African drag racing that a national challenge competition was held at multiple circuits in many provinces.

Terry faced fierce competition to earn his accolades, which culminated with him winning the final round, held at Killarney International Raceway late last year.
“I wouldn’t have dared to dream that such an achievement was possible, but when the opportunity presented itself, my wife, Pregs and I decided to give it a go. It is not often that we get to live our dreams, so this was an opportunity to live this dream,” said Terry.

“I cannot begin to tell how grateful I am to the Lord for blessing Pregs and myself and giving us the ability to compete on a national level.”
