Entries open for Umzumbe half marathon

Umzumbe Municipality launched the Mfundo Arnold Lushaba Half Marathon at the Protea Karridene Hotel, near Umgababa last Friday.

Municipal spokesperson Sabelo Ncwane said the launch encouraged people to join in, especially as it is a rural marathon.
He said sponsors will be acquired over time.

The mayor of Ugu, Sikhumbuzo ‘Zero’ Mqadi was the main speaker.

Mqadi said that they still have a challenge of convincing people that sport is also a form of development in communities.

Phakamisa Manciya spoke on behalf of the Lushaba family, and said they are grateful and proud that the marathon was named in his honour.

The marathon which comprises 5km, 10km, and 21.1km races will start at the Esibanini Sports Field on Sunday, February 18 at 06:00.

All finishers will receive medals and the first 200 entries in the 21.1km race will receive T-shirts.
Enter on the Finish Time website or if unable to register online, head to the Umzumbe municipal offices on Saturday, February 17 from 10:00 to 19:00. Race numbers will also be handed out on the day. Late entries will be at Esibanini on race day from 04:00 to 05:30.
