Golfers break in the new year

Scottburgh Golf Club news and results.

Our upcountry visitors have all just about left to go back to work (a horrible word) and their senior citizens come down for out of season breaks.

While the visitors were here, they enjoyed our course while it was open, no thanks to the rain. The course is still wet, so cart drivers please keep off the fairways where possible and use the 90 degree rule. Get off the cart and get some exercise by walking across to your ball, it will do you good to think about the shot beforehand.

Last Wednesday’s betterball was sponsored by our Welsh bluebird visitors Dave and Janet Beckerly. Winning on a score of 44, was the family affair of Geoff Thommasen and Gerrit Meyer. Visitors Tony Brown and Roland Muller came in second adrift with 42 and the Cubitt family of Simon and Luke dropped in for third with 41.
Geoff also picked up the only 2 club with Luke Cubitt scooping the hidden holes. Jason Gilliver has at last joined the illustrious Stone Last club with Kent Boffa as his teammate – welcome to the club Jace!

Last Saturday was the first running of the Umthunzi Hotel sponsored game, our thanks again go to Ryan Ringo for this prestigious sponsorship. It was déjà vu as the Thommasen family climbed in again. Geoff had a winning score of 35 with son-in-law Gerrit taking second, each receiving a two night and an overnight stay at the hotel respectively. Taking third on a count out was Brian Richards on 33. Russell Freeman was closest to the pin on the 5th with Doc Mahabeer taking the 10th and TM Moodley taking 17. Nobody hit the second! Willie Lombaard rolled in the only 2 club, shame on you that got nearest and didn’t join him.

On Tuesday (16th) The South Coast Nomads will be gracing our fairways. Anyone not doing anything special (like working) is welcome join in the game. A raffle will be held for a new set of Taylor Made clubs, irons, putter and bag up for grabs at only R100 per ticket, so get down and start the year off well.

Flyer’s Footnote: Always limp with the same leg for the full 18 holes.
