Juventus and Dolphins triumph at ward games

The winning football captain Nkuleh Khuzwayo said it was not hard for them to defend the title.

Defending champions Juventus Football Club and Dolphins netball team are the champions of the 2023 uMzumbe Ward 1 annual December games which was held at Mehlomnyama Sportsfield at Mehlomnyama Location near Port Shepstone last weekend.

At the end of the day, Dolphins was crowned the winner after two wins, having defeated Mehlomnyama United 32-4 and Young United 31-9.

The winning captain Nkuleh Khuzwayo said it was not hard for them to defend the title. “Scoring so many goals is something we did not expect. But we knew we were going to win these games. I think the way we prepared ourselves worked perfectly for us. Also, the way we trained worked well for us,” she said.

On the football field, the defending champs Juventus did it again as they defeated Siyabangena FC by 5-4 on penalties after the game had ended in a 1-1 draw.

Prior to the final, Juventus had triumphed over Surecase FC which they edged by a goal to nil, and Siyabangena FC had defeated Mawuleni FC by two goals to one.

Juventus’ captain Ntuthuko Sithole said they came into these games with a lot of expectation. “Since we are a well-known team and also the defending champions, a lot was expected from us, but we did it. We prepared ourselves well and had a camp before the games. From day one, I knew we were going to win the tournament,” he said.

Clr Thuthukani Jeza, speaking on behalf of tournament founder Clr Thulo ‘Ngizingizi’ Mkhungo said Mkhungo organised these games out of love with no financial backing from anyone.
The winners walked away with trophies and R3 000 cash each.
