Dream year for Marlin Angling Club

The local fishermen have had an absolute cracker of a year.

Marlin Angling Club from Port Edward has, for the third year running, scooped the majority of the accolades in the KwaZulu-Natal shore angling leagues.

The finals of both the common venue and postal leagues were fished in the Amanzimtoti area in great conditions last weekend.

With 31 clubs in KZNCAU, competition is stiff, but the club has excelled nonetheless.
In the common venue, Marlin AC achieved top weight for the final (251 weight points).

Top angler for the final was Craig Pretorius on 74.8 wpts, closely followed by runner-up Dean Pretorius (73 wpts).
Dean also caught the biggest inedible fish for the final, as well the year, a stunning 73kg honeycomb ray.

Marlin AC also won the league trophy as well as the weight points trophy.
JJ Dixon was crowned champion angler for the year on ranking points.

Six out of the club’s eight man team received prizes for being in the top 30.
In the postal fish-off last Sunday, Marlin AC ended up as runners-up for the day on 98 wpts.

Some 10 anglers received accolades for being in the top 30.
For the annual trophies, Marlin made a clean sweep.
They won the coveted league trophy by a healthy margin, as well as the weight points trophy.
They also caught the most number of fish for the year with 119 fish.

Overall, it was dream year for the club.
The fishermen were grateful for the support of all the members of the Marlin ski-boat and angling club.
