Historic first for SKZN cricket

Cricket in the region is in rude health and long may it last.

It was a historic weekend for Southern KZN cricket as the women’s team played their first competitive matches at Kingsmead in Durban.

It was a tough outing for the women, who lost both friendly fixtures, but the experience of playing will go a long way in pushing women’s cricket forward on the South Coast.

Fans will have to wait and see.
Phila Khumalo took three wickets and was player of the match for SKZN.

Chandré made 23 runs of 12 balls.
Meanwhile, the Southern KZN men’s team easily defeated East Coast by 149 runs in their match at Port Shepstone Country Club. The hosts chose to bat first and Cody Mortimer smashed an entertaining 89 runs off 70 balls, including five sixes.

Southern KZN finished on 250 all out and then easily bowled out East Coast for 101 runs.
