‘Wales’ of a time for Interclub golfers

Saturday is the Halfway Toyota combined Stableford.

The ladies returned from the Interclub, held at Margate Country Club.

Players were Hayley Gilliver, Lauren Davey, Alex Morris and Janet Beckerly, who came all the way from Wales to represent Scottburgh. They were dressed in a bright Hawaiian costumes for the evening’s entertainment. Hayley and Alex did very well by coming third in the bronze section.

It was a happy birthday for Brian Richards last Wednesday who didn’t shoot his age but one day, one day. Brian then ceremoniously stood us all a drink in the bar, well done Brian.
Griet Viviers is making a habit of walking up to the captain’s table of late and, once again, with Johnny Bezuidenhout walked away with last Wednesday’s betterball and 41 points. Birthday boy Brian and Wayne Simpson are never far away and came in second with 39. A quartet of 2 clubs were rolled in, those being stroked by Ewald Odendaal, Geoff Thommasen, Steve Abramson and Terry Eaton.

The ladies joined in and tried to sneak away before paying the toll fees or in this case Stone Last, Linda Hall and Janet Beckerly being the culprits. We then said au revoir to Ewald as his holiday is over, but he will be back sooner than later.

Last Saturday’s betterball sponsored by P&G Construction was a real blown out affair. The Nor’easter suddenly reversing and blowing a gale from the opposite direction. The cricketers think it a feat to score 100, but on Saturday there were a few of us who joined that fraternity. The Stander family, Alwyn and Byron set off early and missed most of the Sou’wester and with 40 points took home the whisky.

Having a birthday seems to be the key to improving your golf, once again, Brian Richards and Wayne Simpson rolled in for second with 38, beating Org Viviers and Johnny Bezuidehout into third with 37. Daryl Govender was nearest the pin on the 5th with Johnny Bezuidenhout taking the 10th and Wayne Simpson the 17th.

Not surprisingly there were no 2 clubs which means a R200 roll over, and no one found the hidden holes. Graham Brown played almost every day last week and for his efforts he and partner Geoff Thommasenn were presented with Stone Last as a memento.

Flyer’s footnote: Golf is like art, it’s impossible to be perfect.
