Mixed fours team wins Margate tournament

Well done to all bowlers.

Congratulations to four of AMBC‘s ladies who have been invited to play in the prestigious KBA Masters – namely Liesje de Rosner, Helen Turk, Annatjie Kidd and Noelene Venter.

The mixed fours team of Liesje de Rosner, Kevin O’Donoghue, Helen Turk and Fred Hutchins played excellent bowls in very trying conditions to win the Doug Watson tournament recently played in Margate, for the second year in succession.

The ladies trips played last week was won by the Scottburgh trio of Belinda Doornekamp, Eunice Stockton and Jenny Laight on a 4+14. Runners-up on 4+7 were Hilary Holmes, Pam Spring and Ann (surname unknown) while second session was won by Moira Humphrey, Rose Daniel and Norma Boyd with a 2+9.

The men’s trips sponsored by J Leslie Smith & Co was also won by a visiting side, this time from Widenham – Trevor Spring, Jack Allen and Chris van der Merwe on a 4+16. Runners-up on 4+13 were Mally Swanby, Jerry Davey and Ian Adams. Tony Hoggins, Tony Simpson and Denton Duvel took the second session with a 2+11.

The annual sponsored Cyma Construction mixed trips competition was held last Saturday. Twenty four teams provided excellent and exciting bowls in perfect weather conditions. The winners on 36 points were Ellen Cawker and Derek and Georgie McKechnie. Runners-up on a count out with 34 points were Hilary Holmes and Trevor and Pam Spring. Third place went to Liesje de Rosner, Helen Turk and Mike Eley. The session prize was won by Brian McAllister, Len Brickhill and Jean Thomassen.

The club gives a big thank you to all those involved on the day in making this a successful competition. Thanks to Fanie de Jager for your generous and continued sponsorship.
The club wishes to extend its sympathies and condolences to the family and friends of past president and stalwart of the club, Colin McFarlane on his recent passing.
