‘Ballies’ on bikes scared of nothing

The route they ride includes some frighteningly steep off-road hills.

The Mature Old Ballies, as they call themselves, are not scared of anything.

To inspire others, Bevis Fairbrother, Chris Cumming, Dave Corrin, Gerry Rambaran and ‘Magic Mike’ Webster (and a few others), all around 70 years old (some older), are proving that age is a fallacy.

“Give us a challenge and we’ll do it,” say Mike and Gerry, who hit the gym at 04:00 and follow up with a 30 to 40km mountain bike ride afterwards.

Bevis does it so he can still enjoy a few beers.

The accompanying picture was taken at what is possibly the highest point locally from sea level, some 20km inland towards St Faith’s.

The route they ride includes some frighteningly steep off-road hills – named Mushroom, Signal, Waterfall,

Scorpion and more – and mean nothing to these tough old ballies.

“Okay, we might have to push our bikes up the hills at times, but you get the picture,” said Bevis.
