SPCA golf day a barking success at Southbroom

The money raised will go to helping the SPCA fight animal cruelty and the welfare of the animals already in their care.

There was quite the turnout for the annual Lower South Coast SPCA golf day at Southbroom Golf Club.
Overall, it was a great success, with golfers and sponsors combining for the good of the animals in need of care.

Winners of the SPCA golf day at Southbroom Golf Club were Martin Hutton and Phil Verwey, with Mike Davis (SPCA) congratulating them.

Winners were Martin Hutton and Philip Verwey on 47 points. Runners-up were Jasen and Chantal Welsh on 44 points.

Fourth spot went to Hilton and Graham Bird, pictured with Mike Davis (SPCA manager).

His prize was the use of a 2023 Corolla Cross 1.8XS CVT for one week. One of the highlights was the putting competition set up by SPCA staff.

Gareth Parsons and Raynard O’Dell, with daughter Olivia, collect sixth prize. With them is Mike Davis (SPCA manager).

It was a case of R20 a putt for a prize to the value of R1000. All the golfers took part in the competition and in the end the prize (with only one putt) went to Sandi Burger.

To further raise funds the SPCA decided to think out of the box this year by looking inward and giving back through the golfers.

The staff packed boxes for various types – from their own two charity shops five boxes were filled with toys, puzzles and such for pre-allocated creches.

Others were packed for old age homes and Hope House, with items they can use.
Those boxes were then purchased by the golfers and the SPCA staff will deliver them in the days to come.
The money raised will go to helping the SPCA fight animal cruelty and the welfare of the animals already in their care.

After a windswept afternoon out on the course, the golfers enjoyed some music sponsored by Ian Stewart and Peter Barker while waiting for the scores to come in.

Ian Stewart and Peter Barker keep golfers entertained.
