Golfers to celebrate late club president’s birthday soon

Scottburgh Golf Club's latest news and results.

Geoff Thommasen sponsored last Wednesday’s betterball Stableford at Scottburgh Golf Club. Thanks Geoff.
Bob Hall and Mikhail van Braken scraped together 43 points to take first prize. Graham Brown and the man himself Geoff Thommasen not letting go of his prizes took second place with 38. Bob had the solitary 2 club and Org Viviers and Brian Richards unearthed the hidden holes. Deane Jooste’s form has been up and down like a yo-yo and on Wednesday he was down again, but he blamed Spoekie our resident ghost for this week’s Stone lifting exercise.

As there are five Saturdays this month, the club and a few members sponsored last Saturday’s fourball Alliance, thanks to all concerned. It was a perfect day for good golf, slightly overcast and just a breeze coming out the south.

Org Viviers, Nicky Klopper, Johan Nelson and Anton Visage took advantage of the conditions and posted 89 massive points for the rest of us to chase. John Mills, Tony Moore, Doc Mahabeer and Barry Kisten came close but were left three adrift for second place with 86.

Completing the podium were the Govenders, Ivan, Daryll, Deena and Rajiv Sukdeo with 83. Sean Prendergast and Graham Brown were nearest the pins on holes five and ten respectively with Graham, Doc and Thay Govender stroking in 2 clubs. Here’s to the next fifth Saturday in a month.

This Saturday (30th) is the monthly medal sponsored by KWV with the Alliance sponsored by TM Moodley and Nivash Mahabeer.

The family of late club president Henry Gradwell will be celebrating what would have been Henry’s birthday on October 7. Henry always had this birthday bash when he was with us and the family are carrying on the tradition. The game will be a betterball Stableford and the time sheet will be up. Let’s make this day a day to remember both for Henry who was a generous supporter of the club and to his family.

Flyer’s footnote: Through years of experience most golfers have found that the air offers less resistance than dirt.
