INSANE: Two flukes in a row for golfer Willem

There can't be many golfers, ever, who have achieved this.

Impossible is nothing. That’s what it says on Willem Lindeque’s WhatsApp profile photo.
But even he was astounded when he had back-to-back holes-in-one at Margate Country Club recently.

These came at the short par four 7th and the tricky par three 8th holes.
A hole-in-one is rare, to have one on a par four extremely rare. To have two in a row? You might have more chance of finding the Loch Ness Monster in the dam on the 16th hole.
But it happened and Willem is, quite frankly, embarrassed.

“It was lucky, there was no other way to describe it,” he said. “It was a complete fluke as I was hitting it so badly. I was four over par at the time and playing rubbish.”

Then he went albatross-eagle-birdie to finish the nine and score 33. “It was just stupid. To be honest I’m embarrassed, please don’t write about it,” he laughed.

Willem hit driver off the 7th and actually thought it had finished in the bunker, but it got a lucky bounce, rolled onto the green and into the hole.

With the adrenalin pumping and excitement surging, he said to his companions “you know, I’ve never had the chance for two in a row”.
While the tee shot off the 7th wasn’t his best tee shot ever, the one off the 8th was pure.

“That was a proper golf shot. It was a 7-iron and as I hit it I knew it was going to be close. It went straight in, didn’t even bounce.”

A friend videoed the second ace, describing the moment as ‘insane’. Hard to argue.
After the strike, Willem took off like an Olympic sprinter to see if the ball had gone in the hole and he could scarcely believe his eyes that it had.

Club captain Carlos Pereria was delighted. “He’s an exceptional golfer. Two holes in one in a row? Has that ever been done?”

For the record, these were aces number 11 and 12 for Willem. “I’ve just been lucky,” he reiterated.
Willem is the new pro and greenkeeper at Margate, having taken over when Andrew Curlewis left to take up an offer at Silver Lakes earlier this year.
