Winds blow away good scores

The monthly medal takes place this Saturday.

There’s no mistaking that the weather patterns have changed.

Last Wednesday saw a return of the August winds that blew away some potentially good scores. Without the recent Umko raiders, it was left to Stone Last holders Tony Power and Deane Jooste to fill their boots, and Tony claimed a win with 38 points.

Deane almost caught him, but had to settle for second with 36. Graham Brown scored the only 2 club and after emptying my pocket recently, Geoff Thommasen spent his ill-gotten gains on Stone Last.

The weather wasn’t much better last Saturday, but the field was not too bad for the Halfway Toyota combined Stableford. Doc Mahabeer has certainly shaken off the Stone’s weight as he and Barry Kisten claimed first place with 70 well earned points.

Four points further back were Tony Power (again) and Graham Brown with 66, just one ahead of dad and lad Alwyn and Byron Stander on 65.

New member Nicky Klopper is making his presence felt as he picked the right holes to take the kitty, with Ian Walker getting the only 2 club which is becoming as rare as hen’s teeth. Someone of course has to pick up the Stone and it was left to TM Moodley and Thay Govender to dip into their pockets.

Saturday is the monthly medal sponsored by KWV with the alliance sponsored by the Stone holders, TM and Thay.

Flyer’s footnote: Golf is an awkward set of bodily contortions designed to produce a graceful result.
