Striders take on Lake Eland Classic

The course allowed the runners to experience the beauty of Lake Eland on foot.

Members of the South Coast Striders recently participated in the Lake Eland Classic and took the first three positions in the various distances.

The runners had an option to choose from the 5km, 10km and 21km.
The course allowed the runners to experience the beauty of Lake Eland on foot with breathtaking views, technical descents, gruelling climbs and technical single-path sections.

Matthew Dickens of South Coast Striders said the course really offered it all.

“The runners were aided with water stations at the 6km and 14km mark of the 10km and 21km races respectively. Well done to Sanele Wayise, Brino Peter and Stembisa Patrick who placed 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in the men’s 21km.

“Angela Bunge, Zandile Dunywa and Sige Engelbrecht also placed 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in the women’s 21km, while Ayanda Masengemi, Andrew Lind and Matthew Banister placed 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in the men’s 10km. In the women’s 10km, Shirene Smith, Nokuphila Gibaba and Zithembile Mthembu placed 1st, 2nd, and 3rd respectively. Well done to them all,” he added.

Dickens said in the 5km races Andrew Lattin, Jordel Faro, and Keenan Naidoo placed 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, while Bianca Otto, Jiulia Talbot and Yardley Miller made the top three in the women’s 5km.
He thanked Lake Eland and the race organisers for putting on such a great run.
