SOUTHBROOM
The 2023 Lower South Coast 2-4-2 Mixed Pairs lawn bowls tournament was won by Banners Rest’s Pam and Brian Cole-Cook.
In the tightest finish for years, they edged out Westville Country Club’s Peter and Lyn Garrett on shot difference and were a mere half a point ahead of Banners Rest’s Amelia Pieterse and Gino Alilovic.
The tournament is played in nine rounds over five days at four venues – Southbroom, Munster, Port Edward and Banners Rest, each round consisting of three skins of four ends.
The highly popular tournament, which attracts 56 pairs from around the country, is convened by Banners Rest’s Janet Venter. Prize money exceeds R26 000.
Pam has had another successful season in the Kingfisher Bowling Association, having won the singles title as well as several other categories as part of Banners Rest teams.
She was deservedly and finally recognised as one of the country’s top bowlers when she was selected to play for South Africa in the Atlantic Rim Seniors Fours and Mixed Fours Events in Paphos, Cyprus which will take place this December.

HIBBERDENE
The Hibberdene Spar drawn trips was played on a player rotation basis. Best skips were Adam Grobler (first), Johan Labuschagne (2nd) and Alex Bukes (3rd).
The results of the seconds were first Andrew Maree, second Elize Duvenhage and third Nora Swart. Hester Boshoff was the best lead, second was Bossie Boshoff and third was Sheryll Lederle.

MARGATE
JL Panelbeater’s open pairs was won by Ken Tonge and Yvonne Bausek.
Runners-up were Ernie Southward and Theo Vorster.
Session Prize went to Heide Bracegirdle and Jenny Louw.
Winner of the 50/50 was Donnovan Mulder and the best spring day outfit went to Mari Fielden.

THE BELL
Well done to Hew Hodgson and his team, as well as Robbie Duyts and his team, for getting through to the playoffs of the KBA 2-bowl trips.
The open fours played last week was sponsored by Re/Max, Casa Mia restaurant and Pool Prof.
First place went to Willy Knott, Di de Wet, Haydn Rowlands and Mike van der Merwe.
Second went to Sharolyn, Keiron Dacey, Steve O’Moore and Winnie Hess.
Third place went to Renzo van Niekerk, Louw Brits, Frik Janse van Rensburg and Tony Aveyard.

THE VILLAGE
Winners of the JL Panelbeaters 2-4-2 were Johan du Preez and Dane van As.
Runners-up were Alan Gibson and Trevor Heywood.
First session winners were Alan Tyers and Ralph Burl.
Second session winners were Norman Davies and Hylton Cannon.

UMTENTWENI
Winners of the Harbourview mixed pairs were Tony Aveyard and Rosemary Ludwig.
Second were Dick Ellington and Jing Wang. Session was won by Tammy Gibbons and Artur Lopes.
