Tongaat duo bags thunee prize

The competition attracted players from Johannesburg, Ladysmith, Richards Bay and Durban, as well as local players.

With the rapid rise in popularity of the traditional game of thunee, tournaments, competitions and massive prizes on offer, Tongaat residents, Jaya Naidoo and Eric Narainsamy are the latest to win one such competition, bringing glory to their town!.

These two sugar town belters, in a tough contest hosted by Sun International at the Wild Coast Casino last Saturday, overcame strong opposition to win the coveted R25 000 first prize.
It attracted players from Johannesburg, Ladysmith, Richards Bay and Durban, as well as a strong contingent of local players.

From beginning to end, spectators enjoyed a tense and nail-biting card game.
An avid supporter and participant, Jaya Naidoo is no stranger in the world of thunee, having also won this competition in 2021.

Both Jaya and Eric have formed a formidable partnership and play in the local Hotshots Thunee League which is of a very high standard.

“We love the game and are grateful that such a competition had been made possible,” said Jaya.
The two applauded the Wild Coast thunee officials and management for a well organised event.
Organiser Anandh Perumal of the Wild Coast Sun, thanked the sponsors and players for making the event a huge success.

“The competition has really grown and become very popular at the resort,” he said.
“It was supported, with both men and women taking part.”
