It was a bit of a depleted field last Wednesday, probably due to the cold front and August winds.
Those that managed to get a round in enjoyed a few more later. Brian Richards never felt a thing as his 35 points were good enough for first place with the club’s best golfer (in his own words) Bob Hall second with 33. Graham Brown once again lifted not the silver chalice but Stone Last, becoming a habit on Wednesdays.
There was another count out for 10 points again for last Friday’s five pin. This time Nivash Mahabeer was first in the queue followed by Pete Morris and last week’s runner-up was this week’s unlucky one, Steven Abramson.
Halfway Toyota were the sponsors for last Saturday’s combined Stableford with sponsor’s reps also joining in along with a few upcountry visitors. Anton Visage and Deane Jooste back from a visit upcountry scored a commendable 75 points for a four point win over our resident ghost, Spoekie and Bob Hall on 71.
The two Petes, Morris and Gilliver were at it again as they rolled in for third spot with 65, Pete Morris taking advantage of Friday’s round. John Mills, Barry Kisten, Bob Hall and Pete Gilliver all managed a birdie on a par three but no sign of the hidden holes. It’s nice to see sponsor’s reps playing in their own competition, and captain Bob Hall presented Leandra Wigget with a memento in the form of our Stone on a plinth.
Our own Jason Gilliver played in the KZN Open at Victoria Country Club in Maritzburg last week. He came 6th in the strokeplay and unfortunately lost in the final of the matchplay in a playoff. Well done Jace, you’re a credit to the club and a beacon of hope to all our up and coming youngsters.
The monthly medal is this Saturday (26th) with our new sponsor.
