Soccer academy scholarship for Gcilima learners

Even though they did not have soccer boots, it did not stop the young stars from performing well in their matches.

Three learners from Gcilima Primary School were recently scouted by Soweto Soccer Academy for a fully paid scholarship, to be part of Friends of Soweto Soccer Club.

They were scouted at local soccer matches held during the July school holidays, after the scouts saw potential in them to grow as soccer stars.

The school’s principal, Sibusiso Blessing Danca said they are very proud of Simbongile Ndiki, Thelumusa Manyisa and Lethukuthula Dlamini who will be representing them in Johannesburg.

“This platform will give them greater opportunities to develop their soccer skills while getting a better education. What’s even more interesting is that these boys were scouted and they did not have soccer boots which did not stop them from performing well on the field. Against all odds they were able to make it,” said Danca.

He said he and their parents are looking forward to seeing these local lads play for the national team one day.
The boys left the South Coast recently and will only return during the next school holidays.
