Sardine Run tournament kicks off today

The latest Scottburgh golfing news and results.

After all the drama of the Championships last weekend it was a relaxing game last Wednesday, with a few souls missing probably due to the excesses of the weekend.

Nevertheless Graham Brown who put so much effort into getting the course ready sacrificed his golf and had picked up the Stone on his two previous games came back with a bang. Graham took first place on Wednesday with 36 points (and R30 from yours truly). TM Moodley was two adrift on 34, and still no sign of the hidden holes.
Brandon ‘Poomba’ Joubert had a rough championships but came back on Friday to take first place in the five pin with 13 points. He was followed closely by Tyron Pontes with 11 and Abby Jones hoisted the Stone.

Paul and Gina otherwise known as P & G Construction were the Saturday sponsors of the betterball competition. The visitors and Sardine run players are coming down slowly and some joined in the field. Spoekie our resident spirit assisted Club Champion Pete Gilliver to a 43 point win, Spoekie of course unable to pick up the spirit that was on offer for first place.

Byron Stander fresh from his C division win partnered dad, Alwyn for second place with 42. Di Pithey down for the Sard Run teamed up with Laighn Moolman for third place on 40 with the count out in their favour. Nearest the pins went to Laighn on the 5th and Wayne Simpson on the 10th. Two clubs were rolled in by Pete Gilliver, Jack and Simon Cubitt, Brian Richards and Org Viviers.

On Sunday a gang came out and with the help of Halfway Toyota who supplied transport, the course was given a good grooming by collecting all the rubbish, palm leaves and any other things lying around to get ready for this Thursday (15th), well done and thanks again to Halfway.

The Sardine Run tournament will take place from today onwards. Good luck to all the players and may the sun shine and the little fish be in abundance.

Flyer’s footnote: What’s the point in keeping your head down? You can’t see the ball’s flight as it heads into the bushes.
