Spirited performance by young cricketers

The girls still top the leader board going into the second round.

Scottburgh Country Club played host to second round fixtures in the CMCA T20 League – log leaders, Jaguars (all girls team) came up against a strong Mamba’s line up recently.

The Jaguars won the toss and elected to field. At the onset, the Jaguars knew they had a battle on their hands with the availability of all-rounder Lucas Thini.

Brody Cole and Anton Bezuidenhout put on a good opening stand of 29 runs for the Mamba’s before Brody was run out by Veronique du Plooy. Lucas Thini was in next and was in sublime batting form, smashing four 6s and six 4s on his way to 60* from 28 balls (strike rate 214).

The Mamba’s ended up on 110 runs for seven wickets. The Jaguars chase fell an agonising 9 runs short of the target, they ended up on 101 runs. Veronique du Plooy was the stand out performer for the Jaguars, scoring 47 runs of 48 balls. She was superbly caught at deep mid wicket by Lucas, realistically putting an end to any form of a Jaguar’s comeback.

All in all, congratulations to the girls for putting up such a spirited performance. Scottburgh should be proud of having their own ladies cricket team. The girls are working very hard at practise under the guidance of coach Clinton Moodley.
